Little Lamb Books Online Book Readings – Spring 2020 (COVID-19) Guidelines

Dear Educators, Librarians, and Booksellers:

Little Lamb Books is pleased to provide helpful resources and online reading support as we all navigate virtual learning and bookselling from a distance during COVID-19 in the weeks and months ahead. Due to the requests we are receiving from teachers, administrators, and librarians across the country asking for permission to post readings of books online for their students to access, we have revised our Fair Use Policy and we ask that if you read a Little Lamb Books title online to your students or library patrons that you follow a few specific guidelines based on your type of business or organization. If you would like additional information or to place a book order, please visit our website at www.littlelambbooks.com. And, if you have specific questions for your event, please reach out to us via hello@littlelambbooks.com. Thank you.

GUIDELINES FOR TEACHERS AND EDUCATORS:

  1. At the beginning of your video, please state that you are reading the book “with permission from Little Lamb Books.”
  2. We ask that you post your reading through your school or library’s platform or another closed group or platform with limited access for your students and customers. However, we recognize this may not be possible, in which case you may post it through a more publicly accessible platform, such as YouTube. If a closed platform is unavailable, recorded videos of readings may be uploaded to YouTube as long as they are marked “Unlisted”.
  3. For these younger formats, it is fine to read the entire book. For chapter books and novels, the readings should be limited to no more than the first five (5) chapters.
  4. Since we view this as a way to compensate for the closure of schools, please delete your video or disable access by the end of this current school year, no later than June 30, 2020, as this is a limited-time permission. In the event the applicable platform does not permit deletion, disable access to uploaded videos, by the end of the local school year.
  5. If you are an educator or librarian, please email us at hello@littlelambbooks.com with your name, school, city, and state, and the title and author/illustrator of the book you intend to read online and the date.
  6. Finally, we would love to follow along with your read-aloud, so as an educator or librarian, please tag the author, illustrator and Little Lamb Books’ social media in your posts so that we can follow along!

GUIDELINES FOR BOOKSTORE OWNERS AND BOOKSELLERS:

We are granting permission to booksellers to stream live readings of Little Lamb Books’ titles online through the end of the school year. For clarity, we are not granting booksellers permission to post recorded readings of our picture book titles online only. We ask that any booksellers performing live readings please do the following, as conditions of this grant of permission:

  1. At the beginning of the reading, state it is “with permission from Little Lamb Books”.
  2. If you are a bookseller, email us at media@littlelambbooks.com with your name, store, location, and the title and author/illustrator of the book you intend to read online and the date.
  3. Delete any archival copies of the reading that the applicable digital platform may have stored before or by June 30, 2020, as this is a limited-time permission.
  4. Last but not least, please invite or tag the featured authors and illustrators of the titles, as well as Little Lamb Books so that we can join the fun!

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS:

As a Little Lamb Books author, we want to give you the ability to share your work with your followers and audience. We are extending the ability to our authors and illustrators to host an online reading, live or recorded, of a title by the author and published by Little Lamb Books through the end of the school year. These virtual readings may be streamed live via digital platforms, or if recorded, posted in closed educational platforms. Please follow these guidelines in full:

It would be good for you to post the general guidelines listed above on your website as time permits. This applies to all picture books, chapter books and novels. If you are reading a picture book, you may read it in its entirety. If you are reading a chapter book or novel, you may only read the first five (5) chapters, regardless of the total number of chapters in the book.

  1. At the beginning of your video, please state that you are presenting your reading “with permission from Little Lamb Books.”
  2. Our preference is that you post your reading in a closed group or platform with limited access to your followers. However, we recognize this may not be possible, in which case you may post it through a more publicly accessible platform, such as YouTube. If a closed platform is unavailable, recorded videos of readings may be uploaded to YouTube as long as they are marked “Unlisted”.
  3. Since we view this as a way to compensate for the closure of schools, please delete your video or disable access by the end of this current school year, no later than June 30, 2020, as this is a limited-time permission. In the event the applicable platform does not permit deletion, disable access to uploaded videos, by the end of the local school year.
  4. Wherever possible, we ask that you provide viewers with links to a variety of booksellers: Barnes & Noble, ChristianBooks.com, indiebound, Bookshop, Little Lamb Books, Amazon, or your local independent bookstore, etc.
  5. Please reply to rachel@littlelambbooks.com with your name, city and state, and the title and author/illustrator of the book you intend to read online. If you share a reading or grant permission for a reading to be used by an educator, librarian or other entity, please be sure to share the guidelines as outlined here. By posting a reading, you (and they) are agreeing to abide by the above terms.
  6. Last but not least, please tag your illustrator and Little Lamb Books so that we can support you and enjoy the fun!
