Your Monday Muse from Phil Wickham _October 2020

My daughter has been working on a medieval castle for a school project for the past few weeks. It’s been a labor-intensive task. We needed a base, an outer wall, battlements, and more. Each piece had to be measured and stabilized and there were moments of elation and moments of tears. The project is due today and all of us are relieved to hand it over to the teacher and let her take over.

As I thought about that, I realized it’s a good way to view our current situation.

We’ve been working through COVID for months. We’ve been hearing about the election for months. We’ve been facing labor-intensive tasks: trying to provide for our families, schooling our children from home, staying healthy with masks, sanitizer, and social distancing. And, there have been moments of peace and joy as well a many moments of fear, doubt, and tears. We have had to find ways to stabilize our family situations and to measure our risks and decide for our own what was wanted versus needed.

And, yet, God is asking us to hand it all over to Him. He is our leader and our teacher. He is our foundation and our fortress. He is our protector and our King.

“Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” II Chronicles 20:15

As you look forward at the week ahead, whether there is much to rejoice or much to mourn, lift your voice in prayer and praise, and remember that God is in control. The battles we face, our battles, are His.

And, He Wins!

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for fighting our battles. Thank you for being our fortress and an ever present help in times of trouble. We lift our week to you today and we ask you to take our burdens and our worries from us. We sit at your feet today and say you are God and we love you and trust you to fight on our behalf. Amen!
