When was the last time that your passion was on fire?

Days, weeks, years ago?

When a child is still learning, their boundaries, emotions and passions tend to be all or nothing because children don’t have the same expectations as they do later in life. In childhood, you don’t try and hide away emotions and passions, but as time goes on we, as young adults and adults, learn to hide them away, seeming uninterested, or not wanting to appear too eager when something happens that excites our soul.

As Christians, we are called to love, serve, and to make disciples, so we are given gifts to use to God’s glory, passions that we feel deeply about.

But, as we grow and change and have experiences that can be challenging, we let the passion that was instilled in us begin to fizzle out and often the fire in our soul dims. We find it easy to forget our purpose in life because we are overwhelmed by the needs and wants of the world we live in. Distracted by the hundreds of things that vie for our attention and drag us away from our calling. We can get so caught up in the mundane day-to-day that what God has purposed us for is drowned out by the noise of what others say and think.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

When we take the time to be in God’s presence, and seek His will and not our own, He will begin to speak to us. If we ask, He will awaken the passion He gave us so it can shine even brighter than it did before.

Let’s be encouraged today to take the time we need to be refilled by the Holy Spirit. Jesus often had to go into the wilderness to be spiritually replenished for His earthly mission, and we should follow His example. Sometimes we need to revive our childlike innocence to look at the world boldly, but have the wisdom and discernment we’ve learned over the years.

We don’t all have the same callings, talents, and passions. Each of us has our own purpose. Let’s not hide them away or push them aside. Instead, let’s give them over to God so that He can use each of us to bring glory to His name.

We need only let Him in to revive the fire in our hearts!

“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” Acts 4:31
