Your Monday Muse October 2019-Building 429

Last night was a bit of a wild ride. We are praying over our local friends who were in the path of a tornado, and we are giving thanks for safety and God’s protection as the wind howled, the hail fell, and the rain saturated the earth.

Not a fan of thunderstorms, our youngest child ran into our room, her fear evident and her sweet face wet from tears. Her desire to find a safe place, to be wrapped in our embrace and held tight, her only priority. Safe and secure in our home, cuddled together for comfort, we listened to the storm rage around us and we prayed.

How like us isn’t it?

Even as adults, we don’t like it when we find ourselves in the midst of a storm. When the finances are tight, the relationships are difficult, or our health is weak, we feel like we are being tossed by the waves and the rain is pelting down on us. And, it’s unbearable. We hear the winds of negativity and anxious thoughts and we feel like our fears are evident for the world to see.

So, we run…run to the only one who is our shelter, the only one who can comfort our hearts and keep us from sinking down into the waters of depression, pain, and fear.

And, how like Him.

Our Heavenly Father who sees us and knows us, gladly offers us His comfort and His protection every, single day, and especially during our storms. He is our shield. He calms the waves of overwhelm and loss. He whispers to us that we are His children and He wraps us in His loving arms and holds us tight.

I don’t know what you are facing today. Maybe you are in need of a job. Maybe you have a doctor appointment that has you worried. Maybe your child is struggling in school. Maybe you are feeling lost and alone.

Whatever it is, know this: You don’t have to face the storms alone. You don’t have to be afraid. God is with you. God loves you. God will provide for you.

It may not look like what you thought it would, but if you will hold on to HIM during your storm, He will protect you and guide you and hold you tight.

And, in the morning, you will see His light shining on you, just as surely as we are seeing the rays of the sun shining on our city today.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25
