Your Monday Muse August 2019-Hannah Kerr

When the Israelites were escaping Egypt and being chased by an arrogant Pharaoh and six hundred of his soldiers (Exodus 14), they came face to face with the Red Sea, and in that moment they felt despair and doubt. They couldn’t turn back and they couldn’t move forward.

So, they did the one thing they believed they could do …. they asked where was God? They questioned their purpose and their destination. They became full of fear and even anger.

How many of us have had the same reaction when we have been faced with the trials and conflicts of life?

(waving hand over here)

It is so easy to slip into our humanness and forget whose we are when there’s more bills than money, more sickness than health, or more grief than peace.

The Israelites were God’s chosen people and even they had to be reminded by Moses that God was the one who freed them … that God was the one who supplied their daily needs …that God could and did the miraculous and impossible. They had only to stand firm in their faith and to be still and watch what God was doing.

And, we need to be reminded as well. Often and more.

In the midst of turmoil and desperation and in the face of evil and anger, GOD is on our side! He hasn’t left us. He didn’t disappear.

He is asking us to walk with Him through the hard times, the conflicts, the unknown and to trust Him to take care of it all, big or small, because He loves us and is mighty to save.

“Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:13-14
