WELCOME OUR NEW CHILDREN’S AUTHOR-ASHLEY JONES!
As previously mentioned (here), we signed three (3) new authors this quarter, so it’s time to introduce another new face from our Little Lamb Books family of authors. Please help us welcome children’s author Ashley L. Jones and read more about her and her picture book series tentatively titled The Big Answers series.
Faith can seem like quite a big concept to explain to children (and adults too, if we’re being honest), and Ashley’s heart is to take some of the common questions children have about God and faith and use colorful characters and entertaining stories to help explain the different aspects of believing God is who He says He is. She is the host of the blog Big Sister Knows and her first cookbook, Modern Cast Iron (Red Lightning Books), will be released in 2020.
We were blessed to get to know Ashley more this winter and we hope you enjoy this quick Q&A with her.
Where do you call home? Tallahassee, Florida
Describe your family. I’ve been married to my husband Robby for eight years and we are new parents to our baby boy, Gordon. Both sets of parents also live in Florida.
What is your life motto? Only by focusing on Jesus can our lives come into focus.
What would you tell high school you about Jesus? He loves you no matter what! You’ve made some mistakes, and you’ll make plenty more, but none of that can ever diminish the fierce love God has for you.
Who is your main audience? I want to help Christian parents explain their faith to their little ones.
What are some of your favorite children’s books?* Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney (board book), The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams and The Tale of Peter Rabbit byBeatrix Potter (picture books), and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle (young adult).
In your own words, tell us about the first book in your Big Answers series. Who is God? is about Dolly, a little squirrel rescued and adopted by Mama Collie, one of the farmer’s dogs. When Dolly hears Mama Collie talk about the goodness of God, Dolly sets out on a mission to find out who He is. In the end, she not only learns who God is, but she realizes that He is with her wherever she goes.
Do you have any quirky or unique writing habits? Typing helps me think, so I like to write at the computer, not on paper.
What has been your biggest inspiration for wanting to write and publish children’s literature? I’ve always had my siblings in mind when writing children’s stories. Now, that I have a little one of my own, he’s providing fresh inspiration on a daily basis.
Describe your favorite way to spend a “day off”? Reading a good piece of fiction fueled by good food. Now that’s a good day off!
