Y’all, what better day to celebrate than a Friday! Today, I’m thrilled to introduce to you the newest addition to our Little Lamb Books flock….Jean Petersen!
Please join me in saying a big HELLO to Jean, who has some Texas roots, but comes to us by way of Montana. She is one of our awesome #FaithPitch success stories from February of this year, however, she has previously published one non-fiction children’s picture book, Moose Shoes, which highlights animal tracks in the Rocky Mountain region, and she is preparing to release Big Sky Bounty-Recipes for the Rustic Gourmet, a Montana themed cookbook in the Spring of 2018.
While Jean is surrounded by a variety of pets and critters, including three-small corgis, four cats, two horses, a bottle calf, a lamb (Yay!), and a dozen or so chickens, she also lives with her husband of 15 years, and her four children in Montana near the Wyoming-Montana border. I have enjoyed getting to know Jean,
secretly partly because I admire her ability to live in a cold weather state (which makes her a rock star in my book), but also because I learn something new whenever we chat.
I asked Jean a few questions for the blog today, so you can get to know her just a little bit, and you can follow her on Facebook and on her colorful website as we prepare her tasty picture book, tentatively titled Kind Soup. It’s going to be a unique book that brings kids into the kitchen to learn about the Fruits of the Spirit and how to serve them to others.
Where is your favorite place to write? Outside
Describe Your Family. We have a family of six, my husband and myself, three boys (14, 13, 10) and a little girl (5). My folks, brother and niece live in Waco, Texas. My in-laws live here in Red Lodge, and my brother-in-law, sister-in-law and nephew live in Anchorage, Alaska.
What are some of your favorite children’s books? Superfudge by Judy Blume, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and God Gave Us You and others by Lisa Tawn Bergren.
What is your life motto? It’s all good!
What do you think would be the main message of your upcoming picture book? The main message is about having a heart like God because of the Holy Spirit who dwells within each of us. It makes us want to go out and serve the Lord, through either living a life full of the Fruits of the Spirit and resonate to those we’re around or by more acts of service such as giving the soup to others.
What has been your biggest inspiration for wanting to write and publish children’s literature? I just love to read children’s literature for myself and to children. I love watching children’s eyes light up with a good story. I remember loving how I felt as a child after I read a good book. It was inspiring as a child, and I felt at home in children’s stories.
Do you prefer coffee or tea (or both, or neither)? Coffee-Love Coffee!
We are very honored to have Jean join Little Lamb Books, and I can’t wait for everyone to read her fantastic picture book, Kind Soup. Don’t forget to visit our website to catch up on blog posts, and to subscribe to our monthly newsletter for author updates, book release information (like Jean’s), and contests!
