Today is a very special day because today I have the privilege to share with you a Twitter pitch party success story, and in doing so, I also get to introduce to you the newest member of our Little Lamb Books family, Bonnie Clark!
Over the Christmas holidays, there was a Twitter pitch party that took place (not #FaithPitch), but I was unable to attend due to holiday obligations. However, I had marked it on my calendar and when I had some down time between Christmas and New Year’s, I browsed through some of the pitches that had been submitted. When I stumbled on Bonnie’s, the little hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
Here’s what her tweeted pitch said: “What if you could TASTE your WORDS? Amera discovers that KINDNESS MATTERS as she savors sweet words & spits out yucky ones.”
The topic (kindness), the mental image (food), and the words themselves all melded for me, and I just couldn’t resist. So, I surprised Bonnie by reaching out via email asking to see the manuscript, then calling her to get to know her a little bit, and the rest, as you can imagine, is going to be a tasty treat for all to enjoy in 2018!
I invited Bonnie to the blog today so you could get to know her a little bit now, and then there will be more to come as we prepare her debut picture book for release!
Where is your favorite place to write? I like to write on my screened in back porch or in my sitting room.
Where do you call home? Canton, Georgia.
Describe your family. My husband’s name is Keenan and he owns a hair salon and spa. We will have been married 14 years this August! I have three children: Andre (8), Selah (7) and Amera (5).
Do you have any pet(s)? I have a 1 year-old French Bulldog named King Louie Sajak that I bought myself with my winnings on Wheel of Fortune.
(Y’all know you want to hear about that story right?!)
What are some of your favorite children’s books? Mo Willems is my absolute favorite children’s author! Edwina the Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct & Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed have made me a celebrity Mystery Reader Mom at pre-school. I also love sweet books like The Story of Ferdinand by Robert Lawson, Maple by Lori Nichols, and Let Me Hold You Longer by Karen Kingsbury.
How long did it take you to write your picture book, The Yucky Words? I started my first draft of The Yucky Words in March 2016, so almost a year.
What do you think would be the main theme of Your new picture book? The main message in my book is the power of speaking kind words. Kind words bring life to those who hear them, so we should choose them carefully. Ephesians 4:29 says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
I’m so thankful I didn’t miss out on reading Bonnie’s pitch, and that I took the time to get to know her and her vision for The Yucky Words! I cannot wait to share all the juicy details and sweet treats we have in store for this precious story! Stay tuned for more as we document the journey from pitch to picture book! You can start following Bonnie on her website here as well as on Twitter and Facebook.
The Yucky Words will be available in our Spring 2018 Catalog!
